Safety Tips for Seniors this Winter

With the cold unpredictable weather of winter approaching us, there are 3 critical reminders that can help further protect the older population: KEEP WARM, SOCIALIZE, and STAY HYDRATED. Here’s why:

Seniors are more susceptible to developing hypothermia because their bodies can lose heat faster. It’s crucial that we ensure our elders dress warm, in loose layers, and set the indoor temperature to an appropriate setting.

Seniors will be spending more time indoors, which is why it’s important to consider their mental health. Help them socialize and stay connected with others and let them KNOW that they are not alone.

It’s common for seniors to feel less thirsty in the winter months, but drinking the ideal amount of liquid (6 to 8 cups per day) is essential for their health and well-being.
